HRF-AP1 Airflow Systems Filter Review

HRF-AP1 Airflow Systems Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This filter does an okay job in cleaning the air of contaminants, dust and airborne particles. However, if you want to have odors removed, such as pets, smoke, cooking odors, cleaning chemicals, etc., you should buy the A-Plus filter that Honeywell also makes ($6 to $7 more). I took off one star, because it does not handle odors or smoke.
I took of one more star, because it is in bulk and is not scored for cutting. It's annoying to line up and cut out each filter.
Also, be wary of advertisers that substitute off-brand bulk filters. In my experience, these don't work very well and allow too much polluted air to contaminate the main HEPA filter.

Oransi v-hepa Plus Air Purifier Review

Oransi v-hepa Plus Air Purifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did a fair amount of research when choosing a purifier. We were looking for one for our daughter's nursery, so the decibel level was taken into consideration as well as the quality and operation. I had read a few reviews about this unit stating that people heard a clicking or rattling when it ran, but I figured that was just a faulty unit, and that it would not happen to me... Well, long story short, we have been using ours for a month, and the rattling started. However! Oransi really stands behind their products and a new unit is on its way at no cost to us (after I sent them an email about the issue). It should also be noted that it only took them 15 minutes to respond, which is pretty remarkable for customer service these days.
So, despite running into the rattling issue, the unit still works very well and we have noticed a difference in the air quality in the room. Also, we run it on Medium or High pretty much 24 hours a day, so I would say out usage is pretty heavy. I have not noticed a "smell" that some people refer to when discussing the Ionizer, and we do have it on all the time as well. The noise level is inaudible on low, still pretty quiet on medium, and a good level of white noise for the little one when on high. Even on high, it is still not very loud.
To sum it up, this is a great unit to purchase and we are very pleased with our decision. (plus, we got additional replacement filters for ordering through amazon!)

Ionic HEPA Air Purifier cleaner - iLIVING Brand - 5 Stages of Purification up to 3000 sq ft. With 3 Year Warranty Review

Ionic HEPA Air Purifier cleaner - iLIVING Brand - 5 Stages of Purification up to 3000 sq ft. With 3 Year Warranty
Average Reviews:

This is an excellent air-purifier after conducting my research. Comparable to similar designed box units but less expensive. Construction appears very good. I also like the look and styling of the unit.
Capabilities:
-Ozone generator. Five level setting. Very powerful. You can also turn ozone generation completely off.
-Negative ion generator 1 level setting. Can be turned on/off.
-Sterilization using UV light, 1 level, can be turned on/off.
-Fan speed has five levels. Lowest is very quiet, highest is no noisier than a typical room fan.
-LCD display with back light. The back-light is bright but it has a button to dim it.
-Small remote control works nicely.
So far very impressed with unit. Have only had it a few weeks so I cannot comment on its durability but the construction appears very well made. Even though it uses a washable HEPA filter, and the instructions with unit recommend replacement once a year, the HEPA filters are very reasonably priced which makes it a better option. So far I am very pleased about this product and I highly recommend it compared to the other alternatives I found in the market.
Regarding the seller, the purchase transaction was very smooth. The product was well packed and shipped promptly. I had some questions about HEPA filters and the seller promptly answered. Very professional and helpful. Excellent product at a very good price. I will buy again from this store.

Alen Air A350 HEPA Air Purifier Wall or Floor Standing Review

Alen Air A350 HEPA Air Purifier Wall or Floor Standing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife requested that we purchase this air filter to reduce allergens and dust in our (partially-built) home's air. I was skeptical about the unit due to the cost and several reviews (at various vendors) citing noise and poor fan bearing performance; appealing to me was the size, shape, and ability to wall-mount it. So, with a little goading from her, we decided to accept the risk and try it out.
It is an impressive little unit! We run it on setting 2, which moves quite a bit of air in near-silence, when we are home. Settings 3 and 4 are fairly loud, but I think that is unavoidable given the massive amount of airflow these settings generate versus the size of the unit. The unit is now in constant use (again, almost exclusively at setting 2 with the ionizer active) for over three weeks without any change in performance, so I expect we will not have any problems with it in the short run. The room in which it is located is 650 sq ft. Dust reduction is substantial, but I will wait longer before determining just how well it works in that regard.
ADDENDUM AS OF 6/24/2010:
Six months have passed and the unit continues to work flawlessly. Dust accumulation in the house is reduced by half, at least. I have to clean the pre-filter about once a month, but it separates from the HEPA portion easily and can be hand washed or cleaned with compressed air. I suspect I was over-estimating the quietness of setting 2, but I still think it is fairly quiet (not much louder than my computer fans). My wife loves silence and will often turn it off if she decides to take a nap on the couch that is located nearby.

Haier HAPE300 300 CADR HEPA Air Purifier with Electronic Controls Review

Haier HAPE300 300 CADR HEPA Air Purifier with Electronic Controls

This product has made our life so much better, we couldn't be happier. We have a old dog (14yrs) and she started coughing, our veterinary doctor was at a loss as what we could do. The medicines given just did not seem to work. In discussions we decided maybe it was an allergic reaction to something in the environment. I started research on the internet to find a solution. After many hours I finally found this product and its being one of the only purifiers that is acknowledged by the HEPA rating organization. After arrival I put in service immediately in the main area our pet stayed during the day and within 12 hours her coughing started to be under control. We have had it in 7/24 service now for a couple months and still working better than expected. This is a great product! It has helped our whole family and would recommend to anyone even thinking about air purification.

Holmes HAP1200-U LifeLong HEPA-Type Tower Air Purifier Review

Holmes HAP1200-U LifeLong HEPA-Type Tower Air Purifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The previous reviews of this product are pretty accurate.
The issue of the rattling fan is true (I have proven to myself that it is the fan - my first guess is the use of sleeve instead of ball bearings, and the fan may be a bit underpowered to draw the air through the HEPA filters). Right out of the box it didn't have the rattling sound, but after just about 10 hours of running, there it was. Because of this, I would agree that putting it right in a bedroom would not be the thing to do. I don't have it right in the bedroom, and I do have a white noise generator on the headboard, so I don't notice that little rattling noise at night; and during the day it makes no difference to me anyway since I can't really hear it unless I am within about 10 feet of the unit.
I like the ability to turn the ionizer on and off. I use the medium speed setting of the fan, as the high setting does result in noticeably higher fan noise (the rattling seems to stay at about the same level).
I will get a much better feel for how it works as far as "cleaning the air" this winter, as we tend to open doors and windows in the evenings and mornings in the summer; which of course rather defeats the whole purpose of the machine. None the less, we kept the doors and windows closed for about a seven day period, and both I and my wife felt that we did notice some difference in air quality.
Considering the price, the washable pre-filter, and the cleanable HEPA filters, I think the unit is a relatively good value.

With its slim, space-saving tower design, this air purifier offers out-of-the-way placement while effectively delivering cleaner, healthier indoor air to rooms up to 170 square feet (13 by 13 feet). Choose from three speed settings: low for quieter operation, medium for continuous use, or high for poor air-quality conditions. Offering a CADR of 110, the unit's LifeLong filter with HEPA media removes up to 99-percent of airborne particles as small as two microns from the air that passes through it, effectively reducing smoke, dust, pollen, mold spores, pet dander, and other airborne particles that can make a room feel stuffy. To help freshen the air naturally, the unit also offers an optional ionizer, which releases negative ions into the filtered air. The negative ions connect with positively charged particles to form larger particles that can be more readily picked up by the filter. The permanent LifeLong filter never needs to be replaced, and it cleans easily with the brush attachment of a household vacuum cleaner. Even more, the air purifier comes with a washable pre-filter, which helps capture larger particles and extends the life of the HEPA filter. The air purifier measures 11-1/5 by 8-1/2 by 28-8/9 inches and carries a two-year limited warranty.

Honeywell HFD-130 Germicidal Tower Air Purifier with Permanent IFD Filter Review

Honeywell HFD-130 Germicidal Tower Air Purifier with Permanent IFD Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I owned this unit for about 3 months before returning it.
Despite it is called a HEPA air purifier, it is not. HEPA is strictly defined as a filter which has a >99.97% capture rate of 0.3 micrometer particle. This model has an advertised capture rate of 98 or 99%. Although I have also seen a few websites quoting it has a 99.97% capture rate, I doubt it. That being said, a 99% capture rate is not much different than 99.97% for most households. The poor air seal is a much bigger concern. The holder for the IFD filter does not seal tightly to the IFD filter, and therefore air will pass around the filter. This purifier actually belong to the ionizing purifier family, not the tradition HEPA filter purifier family.
Mind you, it works fine and it is fairly easy to use and clean. It is also relatively quiet. My reason for returning it is that it produces ozone and other oxidants as by-products, which is true for all ionizing purifiers. The emission ozone level is under the 50 ppb voluntary guideline, but I simply did not enjoy the idea of a purifier that purifies and pollutes at the same time. This is especially true for me because I had asthma and currently I have an abnormal heartbeat pattern. It is not a threatening health situation nor serious, but I want to be on the safe side.
Nevertheless, Kaz support team was nice and advised me to return it to where I bought it. I was able to return it back to Home Depot without any trouble. Consequently I was really grateful and bought another Kaz made purifier from Home Depot in the same day. It is the Honeywell 50250 Honeywell 50250N 99.97% Pure HEPA Round Air Purifier. I researched a lot before getting the 50250N.
I am convinced that Honeywell 50250N is a better purifier than Honeywell HFD-130. First, 50250N is a true HEPA with higher particle capture rate. Second, 50250N has a greater purification speed at 250 CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rating), whereas the HFD-130 has only 140 CADR. The real CADR for this unit is confusing as well. Many commercial websites claim it has a 130-140 CADR, but according to the AHAM website and Kaz's website, it only has ~110 CADR. Given that the CADR measurement is certified by AHAM. I am leaning toward believing the lower number. Third, 50250N produces no by-product gas. Fourth, 50250N is sold at lower price than HFD-130. On the other hand, HFD-130 has one major advantage over 50250. It is much quieter. For the reviewers who complain about the noise level of this unit, don't even think about a HEPA air purifier. The noise level of HFD-130 at its highest fan speed is similar to the noise level of 50250N at its lowest fan speed, if not queiter. HFD-130 is also more stylish than 50250N. The permanent IFD filter on HFD-130 seems more robust than the Lifetime HEPA filter on 50250. HFD-130 uses much less electricity than 50250N (60W versus 170W at full speed), but I do not consider that as a 3 fold advantage since HFD-130 has half the purification power of 50250N.
HFD-130 is still a good unit and it certainly works. I have seen dust particles collected on the pre-filter and the discharged collector plate. Smaller particles are collected inside the IFD filter. When I dipped the IFD filter into water to clean, the water changed its color to light gray. It is not difficult to clean the filter. It is more difficult to wait for it to dry out before putting it back to the purifier. It takes at least 4 hours to air dry it. Some complain that they see dust collected around the exhaust of this purifier, and I have too, which means these dust particles are not trapped inside the filter, but that does not mean the purifier is not working. It is just working differently than you may have expected. This purifier is not designed to capture large visible particles, rather the small invisible ones. For this units, ions are generated by electrical discharge and the ions attach to nearby airborne particles. For the larger particles, they will aggregate and fall due to their weight, and that is why dusts are collected at the collector plate. Some however will fall around the purifier including the exhaust. These large particles are removed from the air. They are simply not trapped inside the filter. This, however, is not the main purification mechanism. The main purification is that ions attach to small airborne particles and these charged particles drift to the charged IFD filter. The larger particles cannot be trapped by IFD because of their momentum. Keep in mind that allergy is caused by the smaller invisible particles. If you want a purifier which can trap large visible particles efficiently, then this is not your unit.
As mentioned, particles are also collected at the discharged plate, but there is no easy way to clean it and the instruction manual does not state it need to be cleaned. I believe it is probably a safety decision since this is the high voltage part and Kaz probably does not want people getting shocked. However, the air purifying ability will decreases when the dust grow thicker on the discharge plate. You CAN actually clean it. Here is my advice if you want to clean it. Of course, unplug the unit and wait for a moment. Then get a cotton Q-tip and tie/tape it to a small wood or plastic rod, something like chopstick maybe even thinner. Now, you should able to reach in and clean the plate. An insulator handler like a wood or plastic rod is preferred. For those who I have just scared regarding the ozone comment, I have some advices short of returning the product. Ozone is reactive which means it can irritate your throat and respiratory system at high concentration. On the other hand, it does not stay in the air for long because it is reactive. As long as you do not place the HFD-130 next to you head while sleeping the ozone should not be a concern. If you suffer from asthma or serious allergy, then an ionizer purifier should not be your first choice. An ionizer does not always irritates people who suffers from asthma and allergy; rather, it is a possibility. Thus, even if you have asthma, as long as you do not feel anything unusual, then you probably do not have to return it.
**Update: I read a bit more careful on several websites which claims HFD-130 has a 99.97% purification ability. They actually states it has up to 99.97% removal rate. That means it can remove 99.97% at its best. The real definition of HEPA is at least 99.97% removal rate for particle of size 0.3 micrometer. This is a world of difference between "at least" and "at most".
**Update: Also I looked into AHAM more carefully. I believe here is the source of confusion for the CADR value. HFD-130 had a 140 dust CADR on Apr 2006, but it has been downrated to a 100 dust CADR on Jan 2007.

Honeywell 17005 QuietCare HEPA Air Purifier Review

Honeywell 17005 QuietCare HEPA Air Purifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this unit for a week now, and I'm pleased with the results I have got out of it. My bedroom is only about 140sq feet, but since this is rated for larger rooms than mine, I am able to run it on Medium rather than High and still get some nice filtering from it. I run it on Low while I sleep, turn it off when I wake up, and run it on Medium or High for a couple of hours before I go to bed each night. I try to keep my door shut while it is on.
I'm an asthmatic and allergic to my two cats, and have been suffering for the last month (we have had them for a couple of years now). I haven't been able to figure out why I've suddenly begun having symptoms again, but it has been problematic to say the least, and I've had to use my inhaler daily, as I typically wake up with asthma symptoms. I decided that since I could not find the cause of my problems (we tried changing their litter type, brushing them daily, changing their food, and doing a thorough clean-up of my room), I would try to purify my bedroom's air while I sleep, since that is when I generally have problems. The first night I still woke with asthma symptoms, but since the second night I'm completely free and can breath much easier at night. I believe this has helped me sleep better, as I no longer struggle to breath each night.
The unit is quite loud in a room of my size, unless it is on Low (it's no louder than my room fan when it's on Low). My computer is in my bedroom, and I use headphones if I'm using it, so that I may run the purifier on Medium or High. Otherwise, after a day of getting used to it, I no longer notice that it's there. You would not want to put this in a medium or large bedroom, unless you purified during the day and turned it to Low or Off while you slept.
Honeywell claims that their HEPA filter is cleanable and only needs to be vacuumed every 6 months. The unit also requires an activated carbon prefilter to eliminate odors, and mine came with the initial prefilter and two additional free prefilters (yours may not have this, it appears to be a special offer). There is a small display on the unit where it displays your programmed settings (which I did not find as useful as I had hoped), and where it also reports how dirty your filters are. If the HEPA filter is truly cleanable, then this will be a very cheap air purifier to maintain, compared to other models which require you to purchase a $20-40 filter every few months.
Oh! I almost forgot to mention how convenient the remote is! I don't have to get up when I decide to take off my headphones or turn on my television, I can just hit a button on the remote and swap it to Low or Off. This is such a convenient feature that should not be overlooked, if you spend a lot of time in the room where you'll keep this unit.

Hunter 30936 Replacement for HEPAtech Quiet Flo Air Purfiers Review

Hunter 30936 Replacement for HEPAtech Quiet Flo Air Purfiers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am quite surprised by the fact that I was shipped ONE filter. The item description lead me to believe that this item was in a 3-pack. (Perhaps when it said Item Package Quantity: 3) So after the initial shock of realizing that my $60 went to purchase ONE filter instead of THREE I was quite annoyed.
The only reason I purchased this was because I thought it was a great price, it turns out it absolutely wasn't. Now, aside from that the filter is fine and as described. I chose not to return it because I didn't want to waste the money on shipping, and my old filter was getting quite dirty.
The filter is a hunter brand replacement, not a knock-off brand. (which at this point I would've preferred actually at the $60 price)
If you are reading this and do not see the "Item Package Quantity: 3" on the page and are wondering what in the world I am talking about then just know that the item description was probably fixed.
First time I have been burned by Amazon... Buyer Beware!

Blueair 503 HepaSilent Air-Purification System Review

Blueair 503 HepaSilent Air-Purification System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off I am amazed at how quiet it is. It is only loud on the highest setting, and even that is bearable, it is similar to running a box fan on high. However, as soon as you switch to the next setting down, it is much quieter, about the sound of a low fan or in some cases the sound AC makes when running - I think this is a great setting still good air flow but much too quiet to disturb anyone. The next two settings down, I literally CANNOT HEAR AT ALL! Specifically the next one down, I can only hear if I put my ear up close to it, and the lowest setting, "HEPA silent" I had to feel the airflow to be sure it was running. This is great, compared to my other air purifier (Honeywell 50250N) it is much quieter - it's second highest speed setting is as or more quiet than the lowest setting on my Honeywell, and it is also designed to cover a larger area and has a special filter option for filtering smoke.
I've only just bought it and ran it one day, so I can't say yet for sure how well it will filter the air, but so far it seems to be doing a good job, the air smells fresher and I haven't noticed the occasional smoke order - I'll be able to tell better when it gets colder and the people in the apartment below me and around me smoke more indoors. The reason I got it was particularly to deal with the chain-smoking idiots who live below and around me - whenever it gets cold they pretty much smoke constantly inside their apartment, and all the smoke seems to get filtered by the apartment building design into my apartment. I may update this review after I've used the purifier for a few months.

Providing five air changes per hour in rooms up to 580 square feet, this sleek-looking air purifier effectively delivers healthier indoor air--ideal for people living with allergies, asthma, or other respiratory conditions, or for anyone who wants cleaner, more breathable air. Its HEPASilent technology uses electrostatic and mechanical filtration to quickly and quietly capture 99.97-percent of particles down to 0.1 micron in size, including allergens such as pollen grains, dust mites, mold spores, and pet-dander particles (CADR rating of 375 for smoke, dust, and pollen). Even more, its three-stage progressive filter traps up to six times more dirt than competitive models. The unit also reduces annoying drafts thanks to its SurroundAir system, which draws in dirty air from the sides and bottom, moves it through the filter, and then gently diffuses clean, filtered air from the sides and top. Choose from three speed settings: HEPASilent for nighttime use, moderate fan speed for daytime use, or maximum fan speed for fast initial cleaning or very polluted air. Each setting offers quiet operation, which makes the air purifier ideal for in a bedroom or office.
Other highlights include galvanized steel construction, a blue "power on" light, a digital filter-replacement indicator, and easy maintenance--just open the lid, lift out used filters, and drop in replacements at least once every six months. Made of nontoxic polypropylene, the 100-percent-recyclable filter media produces only carbon dioxide and water as it decomposes, plus it's waterproof, which makes it naturally resistant to bacteria, viruses, and mold, without chemical additives or washes. Best of all, the appliance has earned an Energy Star rating, which means it meets strict energy-efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and U.S. Department of Energy. Energy Star products can help save up to a third on energy bills, as well as greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, all of which means more comfortable indoor air without excess costs or impact on the environment. The air purifier measures 13 by 20 by 26 inches and carries a five-year limited warranty.

I have severe allergies, so we run our air purifier all night, every night in the bedroom. It's a great deal for us to find this full size heppa filter for our machine. If we used the universal replacement filters, we'd need to use 3 of them. By the time we stack them, we get half rubber edging and half heppa filter. I much prefer the full size heppa filter. I think it does a more efficient job.

Winix 9000 Air Cleaner, Blue Review

Winix 9000 Air Cleaner, Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I moved in with my girlfriend, and she keeps a fan at the end of her bed for night noise, which helps her sleep. One day while cleaning, I had to move the fan, and I noticed it was full of hair and dust. We have a beautiful dog but she sheds regularly. I decided that we needed to replace the fan with an air purifier; if we want noise at night, it might as well catch the junk in the air instead of circulating it back into the air.
We went to walmart and bought a HEPPA filter unit that was $119, about the same size as this Winix 9000. After 4 months, the filters were black and clogged with dust and hair. It was time to replace the filters. We went back to walmart to buy the filters, which were $59. I quickly discovered that after replacing the filters twice, I've paid for the purifier; I needed a permanent filter. I returned that purifier for a tower purifier with a UV light inside, and a permanent HEPPA filter that needed cleaning when dirty. As soon as we turned it on, it had a loud vibration noise that was unbearable. We returned it to walmart and just got a refund.
Searching for the best air purifier, we went to Brookstone. They have a $199 unit called a Pure Ion, air purifier. It was large and white, like a tower; full of mirrors that magnetically trap the stuff in the air. You just wash it off and let it dry, then put it back in. After only a few nights, electrostatic popping noises would occur in the middle of the night, scaring the dog out of the room and waking us up. I called Brookstone, and complained about the "silent" air purifier sounding like a crackling camp fire; they took the purifier back as well. Now, I am determined to find the perfect air purifier, and I think it is this Winix 9000.
I have watched the videos for this product on their website, and there's another video on YouTube. The most interesting information came from these videos. I have never really thought about this, but they say the air indoors is 50 times more polluted than the air outdoors. Airborne viruses and bacteria travel through the air, and we keep getting the same colds and flu all the time. This air purifier really caught my eye because of the 3rd layer in the filter; the nano silver mesh, neutralizes viruses and bacteria on contact. Secondly, after clean air passes over the plasma wave, it charges the ions and sends them flying through the air, neutralizing more viruses and bacteria in the air. The videos describe it as "washing your home". It was fascinating. So not only will this purifier remove contaminants from the air, but it also makes the new purified air continue to clean other things it comes into contact with in the home. The plasma also doesn't release harmful ozone, unlike some air purifiers that are still in stores.
My girlfriend and I both have sinus infections at the moment, and we are very excited about receiving this product which will: (1) Snatch everything harmful from the air, (2) Give us noise at nighttime, (3) Kill viruses and bacteria in the air, (4) Catch all the dust and dog hair, (5) Make the house smell better. It's odd to be so happy about an air purifier, but I feel like it will really improve our indoor environment.
We've been using the Winix 9000 for a month now, and we love it. After 3 days, the inside of the house smelled clean and fresh, and it was very noticeable. The odor and dust sensors are fun to watch; we notice that after a shower, or after using the bathroom, the smell of shampoo or something you may have flushed will trigger the odor sensors and the fan will speed up significantly until it detects cleaner air! After a month, I took the front cover off to see what the filter had captured. It was covered with dog hair and dust. I simply vacuumed it with the crevice tool on my vacuum extensions, and it cleared it right out. We are moving at the end of the month, and we will be buying a second Winix 9000; one will go in the bedroom, and the other will be in the den. I never thought I'd be so interested in an air purifier, but it's so nice to walk into a home with air inside that's cleaner than the air outside. You breathe better, and relax easier. We've slept better too.

Germ Guardian Ac4010 Table Top Muti-layer Air Purifier Review

Germ Guardian Ac4010 Table Top Muti-layer Air Purifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hello everyone. I just received this tabletop air filter and sanitizer today in the mail from Amazon. Initial impressions are these:
1) Great size, will fit any table-top, even night stands.
2) Solid Build quality in the molded plastic housing and electrical cord.
3) SUPER QUIET blower fan with or without filter installed.
4) *Perfect* Air Flow Rate. **Too fast of an air flow rate and there is no way the Germicidal action will occur as it takes time for the DNA Base Pairing of Germs to be disrupted, which is the core of Germicidal UV Technology.
5) Incorrect labeling of the UVC Germicidal lamp (it says UVA, but is CLEARLY UVB at worst**).
6) A common problem with an easy fix... "My bulb isn't turning on!!!" SEE BELOW;
UV Basics; Mercury Vapor Tube lights produce 4 distinct peak UV outputs of light:
Near-UV - "Black Light" - Causes Fluorescence - Peak output at Mercury's H-Line @ 404nm. 400nm+
UVA - "Black Light" - Causes Fluorescence - Peak Output at Mercury's I-Line @ 365nm. 315nm to 400nm.
UVB - "Invisible" - Causes Fluorescence in only special materials not used for "Black Light". 280nm to 315nm.
UVC - "Invisible" - Causes no Fluorescence - Germicidal - Peak output @ Mercury's Line @ 253nm. 100nm to 280nm.
Vacuum UV - "Invisible" - Absorbed by Air and Glass - Requires Quartz Envelope - Creates Ozone - Peak Output at Mercury's Line @ 184nm. 100 to 200nm.
This unit produces no ozone. So from that we know that the bulb used inside is a UVC bulb not in a Quartz Envelope. It should appear lit up as a sky-blue color to the naked eye (you have to depress the safety switch to the top left of the bulb for it to turn on) and will not cause much fluorescence at all compared to a "Black Light" bulb. It is a Coated Glass UVC Low Pressure Mercury Vapor 6 inch Lamp rated around 4Watts. These bulbs last an exceptionally long time and rarely burn out. This Unit get a lot of bad reviews for the bulb being irreplaceable and often not working...
Common problem: "My Bulb won't TURN ON/LIGHT UP!!!";
When I received my unit, my bulb did not turn on. However after a few minutes of being on I noticed a very very faint glow on the left corner of the bulb. These kinds of bulbs are low-pressure mercury lamps and they run on high voltage. High voltage causes faint glowing even if only one side of the bulb is connected because some of the current still affects the mercury gas inside. These kinds of bulbs VERY VERY RARELY Burn out unless physically broken/destroyed. They do not even burn out from prolonged use, they just get dimmer as time goes on. So; there is a faint glow, thus the bulb is not bad. This leaves an electrical connection problem. Clearly high voltage was present from the faint glow - the circuitry must be OK. This leaves mechanical connection problems; let's open 'er up and see what's wrong...
1) The bulbs is held in with a plastic cap on each side held in place with two small philips screws. They are easily removed, but be sure the unit is OFF AND UNPLUGGED. Be sure not to damage the fragile bulb. Just remove the plastic caps and screws. You'll see there is nothing holding the wires of the bulb in, they just sit on tiny metal trays. Here is where the electrical problem is - a weak connection!!!!
2) Carefully remove the bulb with clean dry hands, and very very gently bend the wires a very slight amount so that they are held against the metal trays when the bulb is placed back in. You want the silvered tips of the wires to sit flat on the trays making good contact. Hold bulb firmly but gently in place in a position where it makes good contact to the trays and replace the plastic covers. Carefully put the screws back in and be sure the bulb does not shift position. Do NOT over tighten.
3) Plug unit back in, depress the safety switch with a non-metal/non-conductive object, and turn the unit on. The bulb should now light up fully.

[...]I recommend this unit to anyone who understands how to unplug it and use a philips screw driver since it seems the majority of the time the bulb shifts loose during shipment.

MicroLux ML4000D Series Home HEPA Ionic Ozone Generating Air Purifier, Black or Cherry Review

MicroLux ML4000D Series Home HEPA Ionic Ozone Generating Air Purifier, Black or Cherry
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this unit through Max Tool back in December. I live in a small apartment with my fiancé and two dogs. This MicroLux air purifier has been one of our best investments. It has completely killed all smells that can come from having dogs. The only complaint I got from my fiancé is that it also killed the smell of our Christmas tree. (but I guess that just means it's working) It's been now two month since I got the purifier and so far not a single problem. It runs over 8 hours a day and keeps the house fresh. The timer is a plus, being able to program what time I want it to start and stop has made it so easy to keep our home odor free. Cleaning the unit is very simple, the back panel pops right off making it easy to access the filters. Overall I am so pleased with this unit and would recommend it to anyone looking for an air purifier.
