(More customer reviews)Solid choice based on the 402 with an upgraded motor more powerful that that found in current (2010) model 400 series units. Lose a point for an ion brush plate with four brushes versus the seven brushes found in current 400 series models. Despite what the directional airflow arrow on the VOC filter denotes, install the filter with the prefilter side (it is not a carbon postfilter) facing the ion brushes. All three units I haved tested emit airflow noise akin to rustling turbulence when used with the VOC filter. Unit also supports the use of Particle 402PF and SmokeStop 402SF filters. Why the MD Pro over IQAir at this price range? Size, overall decibel levels at comparable airflow ratings, power consumption (important when running the unit 24/7) and a superior warranty (10 years versus 5 years). Annual filter costs averaged over a five year period also favor the MD Pro (single MDPROVOCF filter with a 12-month filter life). Why not the MD Pro over IQAir at this price range? Degradation of filter efficiency due to loss of electrostatic activity as the filter media clogs, fewer pounds of carbon in the filter, some bypass of unfiltered air which accumulates on the exposed fan and motor of the MD Pro and vacuum maintenance requirements. FYI, I own multiple MD Pro units as well as an IQAir HeathPro Plus and am fully satisfied with them all.

17005, Honeywell QuietCare Programmable Air Purifier with Permanent True HEPA Filter Review

(More customer reviews)So far I really like this air cleaner. I moved up to this model from a smaller Honeywell cleaner for a couple of reason. One being more air volume moved per hour, and the second is the larger, more "permanent" filter. The pre-filter should be changed every 2-3 month, but the HEPA filter should last 2-3 years according to Honeywell. You can get the pre-filter for $7-$12 so that's not too bad. I had to replace the filter on my smaller unit every month or two and it was $15 each time.
I do wish this cleaner was a touch more quiet, but what noise it does have would not prevent me from purchasing this unit again.
I have this unit located in the garage not far from a 19" TV that is also remote controlled. Although, I don't use the remote that came with the air cleaner, I did find that the mute button on my TV remote would not only shut the air cleaner off, but would also reset to it factory specifications, so I would loose the time on the clock and any of the two programs you can run.
This started happening right after I got it, and it took me the next day to finally figure out what was causing the random shut-downs. I'm glad now I didn't pack the unit up and return it. The simple solution was to cut a little piece of black electrical tape and place it over the IR eye of the air cleaner. Problem solved.

83195 Sears/Kenmore Air Cleaner HEPA Filter Review

This is the first time in two years of owning my Kenmore air purifier that I've been able to find this filter anywhere other than Sears. It's cheaper than Sears (even having to pay $7.99 shipping) and it got to my house in three days. Can't beat that. This is where I'll buy them from now on.

Whirlpool 8171434K Large Air Purifier Carbon Pre-Filters, 4-Pack Review

(More customer reviews)We have had our Whirlpool 450 air purifier for a little more than 2 years, and find that these pre-filters last 3+ months as advertised.
We have also tried a "generic" replacement pre-filter, which worked fine. After switching back to these (as there was not much savings with the other, and they're not offered on Amazon), I realized that these Whirlpool filters have nice little "slits" that help them attach in the right spot inside the air purifier. (That being said, the slits also make it such that there is a definite "up" or "down" to the filters.)
This package of pre-filters arrived in a tidy box (convenient for storage). I'm sure we'll be back for more, as its tough to beat the price and quick shipping.

(More customer reviews)We bought this filter with the remaining balance of our medical savings account about five years ago, when it was $299. We didn't think we needed such a big filter, but if we didn't spend the money, it would just go to waste.
Let me tell you, we have now survived 2 fires in the San Diego region, the first fire came less than 1 mile from our house, blanketing our neighborhood like a nuclear winter ... For these cataclysms, we set the filter out in the center of our living room, and it cleans virtually the entire house! It was a life saver !! At a time when every air filter in the region flew off the store shelves like hot cakes, we had the ARNOLD SCHWARTZENEGGAR FILTER!!! You could smell smoke coming in underneath the doors (we later packed the doors with towels), but this air filter kept all our living areas fresh and clean!
We have a smaller floor standing honeywell $100 circular air cleaner #50100, the little brother of the 50250N. This Whirlpool is quieter than the Honeywell on all 3 settings, although the highest whirlpool setting may be louder than the lowest Honeywell setting. I'm sorry, this filter has just wrecked my enjoyment of our Honeywell circular filter. I just don't have patience for the circular filter any more, and now I'm a committed "Muscle Appliance" shopper (another muscle appliance of ours is the PATTON HIGH VELOCITY fan.)
The filter is box-shaped, with a side intake (shown in the picture). It blows air out of the top, at one of three speeds. The only control is a 3-speed knob (depicted.) The box size/shape of the honeywell takes arguably less floorspace than a circular cleaner. Because it has a side intake and blows air upwards, you can push this giant Whirlpool up against the wall, unlike a circular cleaner. Despite its bulk, it's relatively light, and the top panel overhangs both sides, making it easy to grip and carry. I have this one next to my lazy-boy chair and it makes an effective coffee table, with one caveat : If you have small children or are clumsy, take care not to drop anything down into the vents, because it doesn't come apart very easily. In a smaller room this would be on light duty. We use ours intermittently and we've only changed the HEPA once in 5 years, and the charcoal filter about 3 times.
Don't waste your money on gimmicks which are everywhere in air filter products. Don't settle for a HEPA-Type tower (filtering only 99%.) Buy the biggest, most powerful HEPA/Charcoal 99.97% filter than you can afford. You'll be grateful that you did the right thing !!
