(More customer reviews)Bought this for my hubby who really doesn't like the noise of air cleaners. However, he now has COPD, and he's now willing to have an air cleaner in the living room. As everyone says, on the first 2 speeds you can barely hear it. We actually use it on the 3rd speed. You can hear it, but it's still a very mild hummm and doesn't interfere with the TV. It's helped my hubby's cough a lot. I have other air cleaners, and this one is definitely remarkably quiet in comparison. I bought the open box one and got a heck of a deal.

Hunter 30401 QuietFlo True-HEPA Programmable Air Purifier Review

(More customer reviews)This is my second Hunter QuietFlo 30401 that the motor leaked and polluted the air after over 1-2 years of use. I purchased the first one brand-new. I replaced the pre-filter on a regular basis as needed before the timer recommended it, and I changed the filter when told to do so by the digital filter life monitor. This was used in a large climate-controlled bedroom. The unit is only used during sleeping or when the room was aired out or cleaned.
The unit works great, but the motor hasn't lasted. I started getting headaches while sleeping and eventually I noticed an electrical burning smell. I traced it back to the air cleaner. I called Hunter and they had me cut the power cord and return the cord when they send me a new unit (they asked me to dispose of the defective unit). They replaced the entire unit with a brand new 30401! Great customer service, it was all paid for and I was good to go. Before disposing of the old unit, I opened it up to take a look and oil was leaking out from the motor and it smelled like "electrical burn" smell.
1.5 years later, the replacement unit did the same thing. I hadn't been sleeping well lately, and last night I had a headache, so I smelled the air coming from the unit and it smelled like something burning. I turned it off and waited the next day to take a look at it. The same thing: The oil from the motor is leaking and it smells like it's burning.
So if you are getting headaches - try sleeping with the air cleaner OFF and air out the room! This could be the culprit. The smell isn't noticeable at first but it does effect the air you breath. I also noticed the Hunter label that says "MADE IN TAIWAN". I don't know if this also applies to the motor, but it's too risky to have this replaced and have this happen again. I am stuck with some extra filters but I would rather buy a completely different brand and unit then to risk my health again running this unit while I am sleeping.

Honeywell Long-Life Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier, 17000 Review

(More customer reviews)As someone who is highly allergic to cigarette smoke and other air pollutants and irritants, I purchased a round Honeywell HEPA air filter when it first came on the market several years ago. It still works well in the living room, but it is quite noisy even on its lowest setting.
This year I purchased another Honeywell air cleaner with a HEPA filter (Model 17400) for my bedroom because I had contacted bacterial pneumonia last year and wanted to make sure I did not get it again. Next, I purchased this Honeywell 17000 Air Cleaner (with HEPA filter) for use in a smaller bedroom which has been turned into a home office and library.
These air cleaners really work! This winter I have not had a cold or flu. Also, this Honeywell Air Cleaner with HEPA filter is whisper soft, and I have had no problems with sleeping, working, reading, watching tv, or listening to music when it is running on the low and medium settings. I leave it on all the time, and I've found that it cleans the air best when the door is closed.
It has a convenient handle on the top, so I can move it to another room quite easily. Also, it is light enough that I can take it with me in the car if I want to use it away from home.
The prefilters last about 3-6 months, (and they can be vacuumed often if you have pets who shed). I change my HEPA filter every year, but you can wait 3 years to do so. These filters are easy to change. The Model 17000 is for a smaller room, and the Model 17400 is for a larger space.
Highly recommended for anyone who has pets, who lives with or entertains people who smoke, and who is allergic to dust, molds, or pollens.
