(More customer reviews)bought this to help with the terrible allergy problems we have in austin, texas. our house is old and lets in a lot of outside air, but i wanted to keep the air in my home office (16'x16') as breathable as possible. i keep the unit mostly running on "auto", which is very quiet, even when just a few feet from my workspace. the medium and high speeds aren't terribly loud either, but turbo speed is (understandably) noisy. still, i'm glad the option is there for (in my mind) "power scrubbing" the room quickly. the remote is surprisingly handy for quick fine-tuning, and easier to use than the minimal buttons on the machine itself. i don't feel that this unit moves much air around on its own, but -- in conjunction with with a ceiling fan on medium speed -- my allergies have been noticeably better. for the price, i think it has done a nice, above-average job. 4 stars.
