Austin Air HEGA (Allergy Machine) Air Purifier - Black Review

Austin Air HEGA (Allergy Machine) Air Purifier - Black

I have severe chemical sensitivities. I've tried almost every filter on the market that is supposed to take fragrances, etc. out of the air, but I've found none that lives up to their promises like the ones with the carbon filters by Austin. I have this in my home and it is certainly worth every penny I spent. Any perfumes or other fragrances that enter my home are taken care of pretty efficiently by this. For my 1100 sq. ft. home I keep this one in my bedroom and the Healthmate plus (also by Austin Air) in the living room and together they really keep the air clean. In fact, I usually cannot tell if there is a skunk nearby unless I open a door or a window...and my house is certainly not air tight.
The main difference between this one and the Healthmate Plus is that the Healthmate Plus works the best on chemicals/fragrances in the air where this one is a good all purpose filter that also takes fragrances out of the air. This is why I keep it in my bedroom - I have a dust allergy and while the Healthmate Plus is certainly good at taking dust out of the air but we chose the Allergy Machine for my bedroom.
There are three settings, low, medium and high. High is pretty loud, but not an irritating sound; low isn't too loud, but it is certainly not silent. You don't hear the motor, rather it is the airflow coming out that makes the sound. It is, what I consider, a gentle "white noise" sound.
It has wheels (they don't lock) that move very well and I've never had one fall off. In fact, I find these machines very well made - not shabby - and I've had them for five years. They are made of metal and not plastic and I've never had to air one out.
If you buy this for chemical sensitivities make sure it is the one with the carbon zeolite filter. If it is missing that one (and therefore about $100 cheaper) the other filters can become contaminated with fragrances and don't air out quickly. We accidentally didn't order the right filter the first time and found out the hard way; after days of airing one out outside with the filter running on full it didn't improve. We then ordered the carbon zeolite filter and were pleased that my husband didn't have a hard time taking this apart to replace the filter; it wasn't completely easy as the filter isn't really light, but it was certainly doable.
One thing you should do is to vacuum the holes on the outside once in a while because they will start getting a little clogged up with dust after a couple years (or less if you don't vacuum or dust often).
The filter is good for four years and if you contact the manufacturer before then needing a new one (we use ours ALL the time and so needed to replace ours after three) they will, as of a few months ago at least, prorate a replacement.
Overall, I'm very pleased and would highly recommend this.

Winix WAC5500 True HEPA Air Cleaner with PlasmaWave? Technology Review

Winix WAC5500 True HEPA Air Cleaner with PlasmaWave Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this today at Fry's Electronics for $199, but really wanted a 5300 model, which they were out of as it is being discontinued. Later I found 5300 model could be purchased at Walgreens for $149. The only difference between the two as far as I can see is that there is a washable filter in the 5500, which might save me some money in the long run. My home showed "green" but I put it on the top speed to clear out the air anyway. It is loud at that speed, but very quiet at first 2 speeds. Later I will like the auto mode which switches to whatever the sensor thinks the fan should be on according to air quality. It is nice looking. I can't say much now but it seems a little overpriced to me. I did not buy the extended warranty and hope nothing goes wrong as it only has a 1 year warranty. You still must replace the carbon filters every 3 months. Besides the one in the unit they give you 3 more carbon filters so this should last a year but maybe more if I vacuum it. The other washable filter should be washed every 6 months and can be washed 6 times and then must be replaced.

Austin Air Hega Jr. Air Purifier hm200hega Review

Austin Air Hega Jr. Air Purifier hm200hega

(More customer reviews)
This is the first time I've purchased an air purifier not based on the cadr, so I was a little nervous. But it is great. From day one, the air in my bedroom has smelled very fresh. In addition, I purchased this because of a potential mold problem in my apartment. Since using it, I have experienced less symptoms than before. I like it so much, I'm thinking of purchasing another one for my second floor because the old Hunter I have isn't sufficient.
I would recommend this air purifier to anyone, especially if you have allergies. The only reason I didn't give this a 5-star rating is because it is a little noisy on high (although for normal uses, it probably wouldn't need to always be run on high like I'm doing because of my mold problem). Also, you have to have some place out of the way to put it as it must be set 8 inches from the wall with the air output facing away from the wall.

Winix PlasmaWave 5300 Air Cleaner Model Review

Winix PlasmaWave 5300 Air Cleaner Model

i bought this air purifier after i was genuinely disappointed by another one - the Surround Air Xj3000 C (check my review on that one if you wish ) and honestly i didn't expect a lot. but was i wrong...:)))) this unit is absolutely amazing - lots and lots of power, strong but yet quiet fan (you barely notice it on the first 2 settings) very nice design and as i was able to understand first hand- excellent customer service on the part of the Winix people - i had a few questions and they were all answered very promptly .
When i said - "lots and lots of power " just consider this - my living room is about 400 sq.feet. there were three smokers in it puffing for a few hours. the air purifier is either on turbo mode or the third setting. all the windows and doors are closed. two friends of mine came in and they COULD NOT tell that anybody did smoke in the room!!! no smell, NADA !!!and that is about cigarette smoke - the one that stays for days and really really stinks.
another example - after a few hours of use i opened the cover and checked the carbon filter - guess what - it was clogged with my cats hair ( the little guy shreds a lot ) , and i just vacuumed the house that same day! now i know and i check that pre-filter every 2 or 3 days and vacuum it just to be sure i get all the suction i'm supposed to.
to put it briefly - cigarette smell - gone, cat smell- gone, litter box smell -gone, dog smell ( yes, we have a dog too :)) - gone. when my wife cooks - we put the Winix it the kitchen - cooking smell -you guessed it - gone the second it hits the unit.
In conclusion - I'm very satisfied with the Winix 5300 and hope it lasts a while . it's a great air purifier for a very fair price . Amazon did a great job with the shipping - it came in 3 days even with the Super Saver shipping. i'm giving it only 5 stars just because they don't let me rate it six:)))))

According to the EPA, indoor air pollution is among the top five environmental risks. Smoke, dust, animal dander, cleaning products, and paint pollutants are just some of the many irritants that can trigger allergies and cause ill health in the home. So clean up and feel good! This Winix 5300 PlasmaWave air cleaner helps to clear indoor air silently and effectively with a three-stage purification system. The high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter removes 99.97-percent of particles as small as 0.3 microns in size, a carbon pre-filter collects volatile organic compounds and odors, and the plasma generator disables airborne pollutants at the molecular level. No ozone or other harmful by-products are produced, making it truly a clean system. It's also easy to use: The built-in air quality sensor adjusts the fan speed as needed so there's no guesswork or repeated re-setting involved. Designed for large spaces, the cleaner is CADR certified for rooms up to 350 square feet. Energy Star approved; one-year limited warranty.
